Montezuma is a wildlife refuge and is located about 45 miles west of Syracuse. Located in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York, the Montezuma area boasts an extensive marsh that is 12 miles long and 8 miles wide.

The Montezuma marsh is a vital resting area for migrating ducks and geese. Through the efforts of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the wildlife refuge offers 7,000 acres of marsh. The marshlands attract large numbers of migrating waterfowl to the area.
